Amazing news!
Smith's Landing First Nation has announced that they are not interested in pursuing a hydro project on the Slave River. ATCO and TransCanada have been forced to leave town!

Over the last couple of years we have heard many arguments for and against
building a dam on the rapids of our Slave River. Some say it will bring in
many jobs and be a huge boost to our economy. Others say it will ruin the
river and the land, both recreational and sacred, around it. These are both
sound arguments but in the end are ineffective because they do not address

As reported in the Slave River Journal, feasibility studies for the proposed Slave River Hydro Development are on hold, pending the June election for the Smith's Landing First Nation (SLFN). SLFN owns land on both sides of the Slave River in the area that would be flooded, so they are a key group for the proponents to try to persuade. Read SRJ article here
